So my theory is that Yama is actually a young Harlock. Bare with me here: Harlock is caught in a time loop that ends with him activating the 100 detonators that resets the loop.

Here is how it works. • When the Arcadia changes and bursts out of the earth during the scenes of Harlocks past that is actually the young him.

Hes just come from the future here • He goes about his adventures deploying the detonators. • He flies to the specific planet to recruit his younger self (He's older here).

• (Normally) he activates the detonators and dies letting his younger self (Yama/Logan) replace him as Captain Harlock and we go back to step 1. • Because he didn't activate the detonators this time he doesn't die but still lets himself get replaced which is why there is two of him. He released the Dark Matter as it was part of his loop however with no detonators active the loop is broken. The crew get reset when they die believing Yama to be Harlock having no memory of what just happened. A lot of inconsistencies happened: • RELEASE ALL THE DARK ENERGY - reloaded - this was the exact event which caused the devastation of planet earth in the first place. Life was shown to be resilient enough to return after 100 years and now he does the exact same thing on a much more fragile Earth • he released the Dark Energy supposedly to protect their ship from the incoming doomsday device lazor, right? Except their ship was already pushed out of earth's trajectory by the other ship AND that other ship took the brunt of the blast.

So, what was the actual fucking point of releasing the dark energy in the first place? • I CANNOT DIE AS LONG AS THE SHIP IS IN ONE PIECE - then how the hell did all the other space elves onboard capt. Harlock's ship in the past - shown in that flashback to be at least 4 - die?

• Harlock technically 'died' at the end because of that whole energy releasing business. But again the question follows: he already did that once which made him immortal, why would it kill him now? • waltzing out of earth's space is just their thing since at this point nobody can touch them anyway. The only reason harlock's ship got pinned down in the past - when he first released the dark energy - was because the other two ships also had dark matter engines AKA invincibility • nobody really died, they were just wounded and such. You see some blood off hot girl-chan and glasses-kun was tired after shooting so many nameless guards but nobody really died.
